The Drive to ReviveBeginning Memorial Day 2007, a community group of dedicated veterans and other residents started working in conjunction with the Arlington Heights Park Foundation to raise funds for the updating and renovation of Memorial Park - the park which honors our town's active-duty service members, veterans and their families. The rededication ceremony on November 8, 2008 marked the completion of Phase 1 renovations in the park. Funding for Phase 1 came from a variety of public and private sources including many donations from residents, civic and veterans' organizations, and businesses; a grant from the Village of Arlington Heights and another from the office of State Sen. Dan Kotowski (D-33); and dedication of funds from the Arlington Heights Park District. The ceremony also started Phase 2 projects, including the aforementioned sculpture commissioning and other park improvements. The Drive to Revive Memorial Park committee will be seeking donations and major sponsorships for Phase 2 elements such as the sculpture, park lighting and a permanent timeline of national military conflicts. |
